Top 7 Tips of Professional Bloggers
January 20, 2009
Do you enjoy blogging? Whether you blog for pleasure or for profit, here are seven top tips of professional bloggers. Implement them today.
1. Choose a Topic You Enjoy
Top bloggers are enthusiastic about the topic of their blog. Enthusiasm is vital, because it’s infectious.
Can you hate a blog topic and still develop a successful blog about it because it’s profitable? I’ve never seen it done — your lack of interest will come through in the words you use. So follow your passion: it works.
2. Set Your Blog’s Slant and Stick to It
Once you’ve decided on your blog’s topic, and your attitude — how you’ll treat the topic — stick to it. If you start a blog about green energy, don’t write posts about a celebrity, or your latest overseas trip.
3. Become a Link Master — Plot Your Link Strategy
Links are currency. Decide how you’ll get links — and then devote time to link building every week.
4. Who Are Your Readers? How Can You Help?
Your readers come first. Who are they? When you’re blogging you’re lucky because you can interact with readers. Invite comments. Leave comments on others’ blogs, and with luck they’ll comment on your blog.
5. Create a Content Plan
Without a content plan, you’ll feel pressured, and will tend to procrastinate. Create a content plan. Decide how many posts you’ll write each week, and what the content will be. You might decide to write one long post of 700 words each week, with several shorter posts.
6. Write Draft “Outline” Posts
If you’re using WordPress, or another blogging application which lets you create draft posts, take advantage of this. On the weekend or on Monday, write quick outlines of the posts you want to make during the week, and save them as draft posts.
7. The Persistence Secret: 80 Per Cent of Success Is Showing Up
As Woody Allen said: “80 percent of success is just showing up”. This applies to blogging, because occasionally, you’ll get tired of blogging.
Perhaps you’re not getting as much traffic as you expected, or you’ll received some harsh criticism. When you want to give up, and when you decide “I’m too tired to blog today”, remind yourself that all you need to do is show up.
