January 25, 2009
Search engine marketing involves marketing your business to get the best possible ratings and rankings in the search engines that you work with. There are so many different options to choose from, that you might often feel overwhelmed by all of them. However, if you get stuck, you can get search engine marketing help from professional marketing specialists, so don’t ever feel like you can’t handle it. If you can’t there is help, and you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for it.
Search engine marketing consists of SEO (search engine optimization), link building, and paid inclusion marketing tools such as PPC (pay-per-click) advertising. If you’re looking for cost-effective solutions, you should try link building and SEO first, because these great tools are free. Yes, that’s right. No cost. You can use SEO to write your website content around a keyword or phrase that is popular in search engines, in order to get the best results in the search rankings. Link building, also free, is another tool that increases rankings. You simply submit your link to various sites, and they give you a “vote” of sorts, by publishing your link and letting search engines know that they give your website a good review because they’re willing to post it for you. The trick to link building is to make sure that you use strong credible sites, because quality is more important than quantity. This is where you made need a little search engine marketing help.
Other methods of search engine marketing that do cost a little money include methods such as PPC marketing and paid inclusion. PPC marketing allows you to create ad campaigns that appear on search results pages. Then, when someone clicks on your link, you get paid for it; hence the name: pay-per-click. Paid inclusion consists of programs where you can pay a fee for a premier listing, either at the top or bottom of the search page, often highlighted or set apart from the rest. This will get you more visibility and help increase your traffic and business.
Search engine marketing can be a drawn out process. However, if it is approached properly, it can be very cost-effective and productive for your business. Start of small by focusing on local and niche keywords and then based on the results you can decide whether you want to consider targeting a general, more competitive keyword phrases.
