When Choosing Jewelry Accessories For My Body Type

The rule of thumb when choosing accessories is to compliment your shape. Your jewelry should mirror your specific frame size. If you are small in stature or small framed, you will want to stick with smaller more delicate pieces. If you are tall and medium to larger boned go for larger pieces that make a bolder statement. Wide banded cuffs look great on larger women as do chunkier necklaces. If you are tall you can get away with the current trend of the statement necklace easily. The statement necklace is several necklaces all piled at the collar bone; this creates a shorter illusion. Shorter women can easily pull off the longer necklaces. If you really want to add height to your frame, dress in one color and wear a long necklace with a medium sized pendant.

Jewelry should always compliment your frame, not overpower it so if you are in between- neither petite nor large, be careful with the larger pieces or layering, you want people to notice you and your fantastic ensemble, not just your jewelry. I have seen women in my industry who are medium height but smaller framed who wear too much chunky jewelry and it literally looks like they are being suffocated by it!

On the other end of the spectrum, don’t go so small that you can’t even see your accessories. Dainty fine jewelry is great for all shapes and sizes but if you are going for a fashion look add some chandelier earrings in a matching metal for your keepsake necklace and add a few small bangles or bracelets in the same style to create over all balance. It is also perfectly acceptable to layer your necklaces with your fine jewelry. I have a gold heart locket that my husband gave to me that I love to wear with a gold charm necklace that has a bunch of other heart charms hanging from an O-ring and it mixes in just perfectly.

In summary, remember your body size when shopping for accessories. What you like may not suit your body type and vice versa. Use this information to open your mind to new possibilities to improve your look.
